Maintain high cgpa:
Your cgpa speaks your knowledge in theoretical concepts and how well you can digest concepts. Make sure your cgpa is at least above 8.5 out of 10. Higher cgpa along with exceptional extracurricular activities will help you stand out from the crowd.
Research paper:
Make sure you have relevant research experience. Masters studies are meant for students who are more interested in their subjects and a research paper can substantiate this fact. While publishing your paper make sure you are publishing your work in a peer reviewed journal with high impact factor. Working in a research can have added advantage. How? Work experience:

This means you should be an active member of your community. Try to solve for problems in your community using your knowledge. Be a responsive citizen for eg. Universities prefer students who are self-motivated and take initiatives. If you are an undergraduate student then explore and take risk. Find any problem around you, try to solve the issue and develop this solution into a business. For students who find business overwhelming can start working as a freelancer this will help you gain more experience. Don’t forget to mention this in your resume.
National and International competition:
Participate in international and national competitions, initially you may not win, don’t lose your confidence in time you will learn and start winning competitions. Exhibit your project in various competitions, make improvements, exhibit again finally you will end up developing a good product which will win awards in various competitions.
Join Communities
Become an active member of internationally recognised communities, volunteer in various activities. Gradually take up decision making roles and sharpen your leadership quality.
Statement of purpose:
SOP gives you the opportunity to showcase yourself. You should be able to explain the purpose of the program and show how it will help your career. The sop should be engaging, it should comprise of a brief introduction of yourself, your academic background, career goals and also talk about the motivation factor that led you to pursue this program.
Letter of Recommendation:
Find professors who might have worked or studied in your dream university, work under them, ask them to recommend you. Recommendation letter from good professors can boost your chance of getting into a university.
GRE:
Try to score above 320 ( verbal + quantitative ) and above 3.5 in analytical writing.
TOEFL/ IELTS:
In TOEFL score above 25 in all section. If you have appeared IELTS try scoring a total of 8.0.
