How to build great profile 2020

Admission committee of universities evaluates your complete profile. With increasing competition for masters application students need to create a profile that stands out and immediately makes the Admission Committee take notice. Here are some points that can help you improve your profile.

Maintain high cgpa:

Your cgpa speaks your knowledge in theoretical concepts and how well you can digest concepts. Make sure your cgpa is at least above 8.5 out of 10. Higher cgpa along with exceptional extracurricular activities will help you stand out from the crowd.

Research paper:

Make sure you have relevant research experience. Masters studies are meant for students who are more interested in their subjects and a research paper can substantiate this fact. While publishing your paper make sure you are publishing your work in a peer reviewed journal with high impact factor. Working in a research can have added advantage. How? You may have a dream university that you wish to join, as a part of your research you can contact professors of that university. If the professor is impressed in your work then he may be able to recommend you to the university.

Work experience:

If you are currently doing your undergraduate degree then an internship from a good company can always help improve your profile. While doing your internship make sure your work is in a field relevant to your masters. For people out of college make sure you have relevant work experience from any top company.

Be socially responsible:

This means you should be an active member of your community. Try to solve for problems in your community using your knowledge. Be a responsive citizen for eg. During corona out break how did you help your government tackle the issue? Document your contribution and mention this in your resume. Most of the universities look for good morals and values in their students.

Self-employment Profile:

Universities prefer students who are self-motivated and take initiatives. If you are an undergraduate student then explore and take risk. Find any problem around you, try to solve the issue and develop this solution into a business. For students who find business overwhelming can start working as a freelancer this will help you gain more experience. Don’t forget to mention this in your resume.

National and International competition:

Participate in international and national competitions, initially you may not win, don’t lose your confidence in time you will learn and start winning competitions. Exhibit your project in various competitions, make improvements, exhibit again finally you will end up developing a good product which will win awards in various competitions.

Join Communities

Become an active member of internationally recognised communities, volunteer in various activities. Gradually take up decision making roles and sharpen your leadership quality.

Statement of purpose:

SOP gives you the opportunity to showcase yourself. You should be able to explain the purpose of the program and show how it will help your career. The sop should be engaging, it should comprise of a brief introduction of yourself, your academic background, career goals and also talk about the motivation factor that led you to pursue this program.

Letter of Recommendation:

Find professors who might have worked or studied in your dream university, work under them, ask them to recommend you. Recommendation letter from good professors  can boost your chance of getting into a university.

GRE:

Try to score above 320 ( verbal + quantitative ) and above 3.5 in analytical writing.

TOEFL/ IELTS:

In TOEFL score above 25 in all section. If you have appeared IELTS try scoring a total of 8.0.
